北京大学简介

    搜狐体育讯 北京大学创建于1898年，初名京师大学堂，是中国第一所国立综合性大学，也是当时中国的最高教育行政机关，1912年改为现名。中华人民共和国成立后，北京大学成为一所以文理基础教学和研究为主的综合性大学，为国家培养了大批人才。

2000年，北京大学与原北京医科大学合并，组建了全新的北京大学。今天的北京大学着力发展经济建设、科技进步和社会发展急需的应用学科、交叉学科和新兴学科，使学校成为一所拥有自然科学、技术科学、社会科学、人文科学、管理科学、教育科学、语言科学、医药科学和新型工程科学等多种学科，集人才培养、科学研究、社会服务为一体的新型综合性大学。

　　目前，北京大学共有33,800名在校学生，31个学院、16个系，4个第二学士学位专业、224个硕士专业、202个博士专业、101个本科专业，35个博士后流动站，98个研究所、126个研究中心、11个国家重点实验室。现有3,276位副教授以上职称的教师，其中中国科学院、中国工程院院士60人、第三世界科学院院士5人。

　　北京大学十分重视国际交流与合作。目前已与遍及世界50多个国家和地区的240余所大学和研究机构建立了校际交流关系。北京大学每年出访交流的教员和学生超过5,000人次，每年到访北大的外宾超过20,000人次，1998年以来已有数十位诺贝尔奖得主和30多位国家元首访问北大并发表演讲。此外，北京大学积极参加有关大学组织并承办国际会议，与全球知名高校和学术机构交流教学理念和管理经验。1998年北京大学百年校庆之际，在国家的支持下，北京大学适时启动“创建世界一流大学计划”，从此，北京大学的历史又翻开了新的一页。

　　

An Introduction to Peking University

 

Founded in 1898, Peking University was originally named the Imperial University of Peking.  It was the first comprehensive national university, as well as the supreme administrative organ in China at that time.  In May of 1912, the University adopted its present name.  In 1952, to meet the reform demands of the country, Peking University became a more comprehensive university focusing on both the humanities and the sciences, with an added emphasis on research.  With the incorporation of the former Beijing Medical University, a completely new Peking University was formed in April 2000.  Today, Peking University consists of natural sciences, applied sciences, engineering sciences, as well as the humanities, social sciences, management sciences, linguistic sciences, education studies, and a variety of other fields.

 

There are around 33,800 students, including 15,128 postgraduates, currently attending Peking University.  The University comprises 5 faculties, 31 colleges and 16 departments.  There are 98 research institutes, 126 research centers, 11 key national laboratories, and 12 teaching hospitals.  Moreover, there are 101 specialties for undergraduates, 4 specialties for dual-degree students, 224 specialties for Master candidates, and 202 specialties for Doctoral candidates.  In addition, there are 81 national key academic disciplines and 35 post-doctoral research stations.  The teaching faculty is composed of 3,276 professors and associate professors, including 52 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 8 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5 members of the Third World Academy of Sciences.

 

Peking University is an increasingly international university.  In the year 2005, almost 600 scholars and experts visited Peking University, and over 5000 international students from 96 countries, studied at Peking University.  In the meantime, many heads of state and celebrities also paid visits to the beautiful campus.  Since the University celebrated its centennial in 1998, over 30 heads of state visited Peking University and delivered speeches.  Distinguished guests also include Nobel Laureates and presidents of prestigious institutions whose visits further connect Peking University to the world and promote the academic cooperation worldwide.  Currently, Peking University has established exchange programs with 240 renowned universities from 49 countries and regions.  Supported by the Chinese government, Peking University is now embarking on an exciting journey to realize the goal of becoming a world-class university in the 21st century.
